The archives and local studies service collects and cares for documents and books about the East Riding of Yorkshire. You can look at the archives and local studies collections in the research room of the Treasure House building in Champney Road, Beverley.
We have archives for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area.We also have archives for the pre-1974 historic County of the East Riding of Yorkshire and for the Humberside County Council 1974-1996.We have parish registers and records for the area of the East Riding Archdeaconry. We have many archive collections of national and international importance.
The opening hours of the archives and local studies service in the Treasure House are:9.30am-5.00pm Monday 9.30am-8.00pm Tuesday 9.30am-5.00pm Wednesday 9.30am-8.00pm Thursday 9.30am-5.00pm Friday 9.00am-4.00pm Saturday Readers looking at documents need a reader's ticket. You can get a County Archive Research Network (CARN) ticket when you visit the Treasure House. You will need to bring proof of your name, current address and signature (eg. a driving licence) with you.
No appointment is needed, but please see opening times above.Reader spaces can be reserved by phone, letter or e-mail. See contact details.Items from the archive collection for use on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays can be ordered in advance. We do get documents out on the day but there may be some restrictions because of the limited number of staff at these times.
The archives and local studies collections can be viewed free of charge by any member of the public in the research room of the Treasure House.Some documents cannot be seen because they contain personal information.The archives and local studies research room is an area of quiet study and is not a suitable place for very young children.
