XXVII. Flamborough Head No Take Zone
The Committee for the North Eastern Sea Fisheries District, in exercise of its powers under section 5 of the Sea Fisheries Regulation Act 1966 has made the following Byelaw:
This byelaw applies to that part of the district within an area known as the Flamborough Head Special Area of Conservation.

North East Sea Fisheries Committee sea bass - Announcement of annual audit
Moody Marine Ltd has announced that the North East Sea Fisheries Committee sea bass fishery will shortly be undergoing an annual surveillance audit. During the audit, Moody Marine will be speaking with representatives of the fishery, fishery management bodies and other stakeholders of the fishery.

Limited Shellfish Permit - Permit Scheme 2008
From 1 June 2007 no person shall fish for or take any shellfish in the form of Lobster, Edible Crab, velvet Crab and Whelk from North Eastern Sea Fisheries` district, without a relevant shellfish permit.

New Shellfish Permit Requirements
The North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee implemented a new Shellfish Permit Byelaw which came into force on 1 June 2007. Under the new Byelaw vessels that are `10M and under` and vessels that are `over 10M` have to follow different procedures. Please click on the headline to find out further information.

Lobster Tagging Programme
NESFC has initiated a tagging experiment on lobsters, which will commence in May 2007. The tags are yellow in colour and are inserted on the top of the tail/carapace (Dorsally). Unique 7-figure serial numbers accompany each tag.

Intertidal Code of Conduct
North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee is involved in the schemes of management for the three European Marine Sites within its District. Additionally there are numerous other designated sites that have species or habitats which are sensitive to anthropogenic activities. Generally, many of these activities are only regulated in terms of fisheries, yet they have the potential to cause severe damage to sensitive areas. As best practice, coastal managers prefer a pragmatic approach whereby codes of conduct are developed for activities, so to avoid the need for burdensome regulation and costly enforcement.

Lobster `V` Notching Programme
NESFC initiated the lobster `V` notching programme in 1998 and during the course of the scheme, 19,842 (12.5 tonnes) lobsters have been purchased and returned to the fishery carrying a distinctive `V` notch mark. The scheme continued in 2005 and a further 1,202 ovigerous lobsters were returned to the fishery.
