Dial-A-Ride
| Q. | Why do I have to book a journey on these services? |
A. | Because not all the services are conventional bus services, e.g. Medibus and MiBus require users to live in the scheme areas, join the schemes as members and meet certain criteria (see below). There are also practical reasons in that none of the dial-a-ride services have completely fixed routes and need to be able to divert off the main route to pick up individual passengers on demand. Some such as Medibus and Bridlington Dial-A-Ride don’t have fixed routes at all to enable them to meet individual passenger requirements day by day. So pre-booking is essential to enable to pick ups to be planned. Some passengers have special requirements such as the need to travel in a wheelchair. Finally, booking your seat guarantees you a place on the service, giving you confidence that you will be picked up and enabling us to plan your return journey too if needed. |
Q. | Can anybody use the dial-a-ride services? |
A. | Anybody can book a journey on the Bridlington Dial-A-Ride, Flexibus and PATH AwayDays services. Simply ring and book your journey.
However, the Medibus and MiBus services are a little different as they are provided for people living in the areas covered by the schemes and who meet certain criteria and are scheme members. Membership is open to those who: -
- Live in an isolated rural location served by the scheme and who don’t own a car or have convenient access to one,
- Or who suffer from a mobility handicap, which makes it very difficult or impossible to use ordinary bus services.
If you live in the scheme area and think you qualify, ring the scheme to register as a member and book a journey.

The HART MEDIBUS serves rural villages around Hornsea serving Beverley Westwood, Hull Royal and Castle Hill Hospitals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Q. | Why don’t the Medibus services cover Beverley, Bridlington or Cottingham? |
A. | Because Medibus is funded through the Government’s Rural Bus Challenge scheme. This means that the service must be designed for and used by people living in rural villages or small market towns and not the larger urban areas. |
Q. | Can I use Medibus to go shopping? |
A. | The main aim of Medibus is to provide a transport service to key medical facilities such as hospitals, surgeries or other specialist clinics. So bookings from eligible users who need to get to these facilities will always take priority. |
Q. | Can I use my concessionary travel pass on these services? |
A. | Yes, all these services will accept your pass and allow you to travel at half fare. |
