The foundations for a healthy and productive life are laid well before a baby is even born.  For this reason, the council and the East Riding of Yorkshire Primary Care Trust are working hand-in-hand towards the co-location of midwifery and parenting services.  This is an important step towards providing the support needed by many new families, in particular the most vulnerable. This is already happening in some areas, making services more accessible.

The theme of promoting healthy lifestyles continues through childhood into adulthood.  This covers a range of issues from accommodation, leading healthy lives and emotional health.  We promote a variety of health campaigns such as accident prevention and sun awareness.  In particular, we have targeted obesity with height and weight measuring for reception and year six children.

The East Riding Youth Assembly has taken a lead in promoting sexual health, running their own conference to support the roll out of sexual health services across the East Riding.  By working together to promote health, prevent sickness and identify risks, we can help ensure children and young people achieve the outcomes from Every Child Matters.
