As the 14-19 curriculum broadens and young people are faced with an ever increasing choice of options at key transitional points at Yr 9 and Yr 11, quality impartial information advice and guidance (IAG) has never been more important.
The East Riding 14-19 Partnership has endorsed a set of IAG quality standards and has made a commitment to ensuring young people will have access to high quality IAG. As part of the 14-19 strategy the provision of facilities by all learning providers for high quality information, advice and guidance will be measured against a set of local externally assessed Quality Standards known as ‘The Gold Standard’.
Bishop Burton College is the first learning provider in the East Riding to successfully undergo the assessment, and in his letter informing them of their success in meeting the prescribed East Riding Gold Standard, John Wilson, Chair of the 14-19 Strategy group, comments "The systems you have in place throughout the college clearly confirm the value you place on supporting students into, through and beyond their chosen courses and you were able to demonstrate good practice for all nine Gold Standard elements."
In fulfilling its role as a corporate parent and showing a commitment to the continued support of young people into Education, Employment or Training (EET), East Riding of Yorkshire Council is helping young people in and leaving care into employment by providing work experience and support into apprenticeship posts within East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
This is a joint venture between the Corporate Parenting Group and Workforce Development enabling ‘Looked After Children’ and care leavers to access much needed work placements and training opportunities.
