Equal Opportunities
The Adult Education Service recognises that people attending its provision have diverse needs and motivations and differing levels of skill and experience. They also have different preferences about the learning environment and about ways in which they like to learn.
It is the aim of the Adult Education Service to ensure that its provision is available as widely as possible across the East Riding by working within the Authority's Equal Opportunities Policy and by:
- maintaining a policy of affordable fees and free Skills for Life provision
- monitoring physical access to premises used by the Service
- monitoring the need for and help with childcare if you meet the eligible criteria
- ensuring that provision is locally delivered
- monitoring access to effective information about provision throughout the authority
- monitoring take-up of provision according to demographic factors which may indicate under-representation of sections of the community
- providing responsive and flexible opportunities which encourage lifelong learning
- providing learners with a statement regarding the provision they receive
Adult Education provision will be delivered within an Equal Opportunities framework by ensuring that:
- different learning styles and levels of learning are recognised and responded to appropriately
- barriers to learning are recognised and addressed
- discriminatory behaviour is challenged
