The forward planning section is responsible for the preparation, monitoring and review of the council`s planning policy framework that will guide the area's future development.
This will be set out in the "Development Plan", which at present is a combination of the existing Joint Structure Plan, Local Plans and Regional Spatial Strategy. The new Local Development Framework will replace the Joint Structure Plan and Local Plans over time.
Local Development Framework
As part of the new planning system introduced in 2004, we are working on our Local Development Framework (LDF). This is a collection of planning documents which will become the Development Plan for the East Riding.
Each document will cover either a particular topic or area. Policies saved from the Joint Structure Plan will, for now, form the Core Strategy of the LDF.

The Government has issued Directions which lists those policies from the above Local Plans that are `saved` beyond 27 September 2007. Any policies not listed in the relevant Direction expired on that date.

In addition we are involved in the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy - Yorkshire and Humber Plan. This sets out the broad planning policy framework for the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Its preparation involves joint working with other Local Authorities and organisations in the region and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly.
