Sustainability Earth in hands

"Ensuring quality of life for future generations."

Sustainability is not just concerned with the here and now but in ensuring future generations enjoy at least the same quality of life as us today.

The community and sustainable development team is striving to make continuous improvements and has set out plans for future work. A list of these is outlined below. In time and as they are developed, details about these programmes will be published here.

Work has already begun on an EMAS CECO Management and Audit Scheme for the council which will examine the council's impacts on the environment and set targets and objectives in order to make continuous improvements.

Future Projects:

Nottingham Declaration Action Plan : This will help the whole of the East Riding of Yorkshire reduce its environmental footprint.

Sustainable Home Guide : Will give tips to residents on how they can become more environmentally friendly and more sustainable in their everyday life.

The Pledge : Residents will be asked to sign up to a pledge to help tackle climate change.

Biodiversity Action Plan : How the council and its partners will ensure conservation and enhancement of biodiversity in the East Riding.

Phase One Habitat Survey : Devloping an accurate up to date biodiversity evidence base for the East Riding.

Country Mile Project : Promoting the protection and enhancement of wildlife rich verges in the East Riding.

Shoreline Management Plan : Large scale risk assessment of coastal erosion and flooding from Flamborough Head to Gibralter Point.

LSP Task Groups : Working with local partners to improve the environmental protection of the East Riding.
