"Through sustainable living, our impact on the environment can be greatly reduced."
The East Riding is particularly at risk from climate change due its eroding coastline and locality along the Humber Estuary. A change in climate would have dramatic effects, forcing agricultural trends to adapt, whilst farmers would experience a change in soil quality. Local wildlife and biodiversity would also be affected.
The council is committed to minimising its environmental footprint both as a service provider and estate manager.
To demonstrate its determination to lead by example the Council has signed up to the East Riding Environmental Footprint Pledge, which is based on the principles of the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.
We must all make greater efforts to reduce the future impact of climate change on the East Riding and globally. If we all pull together the small changes we make in our lives really can make a big difference. This guide contains lots of free, quick, easy changes you can make to your home lifestyle to reduce your environmental impact, many also have the added benefit of saving you money. What is my Carbon Footprint?
The term ‘carbon footprint’ refers to the amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) produced per year per person. Excess CO2 production is the biggest cause of climate change. We must all try to reduce our carbon footprints to help tackle the effects of global warming. To find out what your Carbon Footprint is visit the Act on CO2 website.
