We have a small but growing ethnic minority population and must ensure that they do not suffer isolation and exclusion due to their relatively small numbers and that our services are accessible to the whole community.
According to the 2001 Census, 1.22%of the population of the East Riding is from black and minority ethnic groups including Indian, Chinese, Pakistani, African or Caribbean. A further 0.86% can be added to this figure for people who are classified as 'White Other' and it is apparent that there has been a steady growth in the number of migrant workers, although reliable statistics since the Census are not available.
