The National Archives Accreditation
The National Archives assesses all local authority archive services in England and Wales.
In 2008 the East Riding Archives and Local Studies Service was awarded a 4 star rating. This is the highest award that The National Archives makes. This means that we have kept the top ranking we got in 2007.
The National Archives looks at all the things that make up a good archive service including public access, quality of cataloguing and the standards collections are stored in.
Our overall score improved from 74% in 2007 to 81% in 2008. There have been improvements in preservation due to the opening of the conservation workshop and also in documenting collections as we have done more cataloguing since the move into the Treasure House in 2007.
A summary of the scores with national comparisons is given below. 2007's scores are given in brackets.
The annual survey of users
During 2 weeks in November 2007 the East Riding Archives and Local Studies Service asked its readers to fill in a questionnaire as part of an annual survey of users of British Archives.
This survey is organised by the Public Services Quality Group for Archives and Local Studies. It is a national survey and most local archive offices participate in it. We received 154 completed questionnaires.
We would like to thank all of our readers who completed a questionnaire. We use this information to find out how we are doing and how we can improve our service.
The most important score from this survey is that 98% of users said that the Archives and Local Studies Service was good (36%) or very good (62%).
A summary of the results from the questions relating to staff, facilities and services and a summary of some of the comments you made and how we have responded to them is available in the attached document.
Service planning
The Archives and Local Studies Service produces an annual service plan. This contains an outline of the Service’s objectives for the year. View the Service Plan for 2008/9.
