Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if a mobile library visits my village and when it is next due to call?

To find out if a mobile library visits your village please call 01482 392721.

Do I have to join the library to use its facilities?
No, anyone is welcome to visit and look at our stock, however you do have to join if you wish to borrow items.

How old do you have to be to join the library?
There is no lower age limit. Babies can join the library in their own name and have their own ticket.

How many books can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 12 books at a time.

How long can I borrow books for?

This depends on the library you use. A branch library and the larger travelling libraries, that visit villages each week, issue books for three weeks. Mobile Libraries, that visit villages fortnightly, issue books for 2 weeks.

If you want to keep them longer please contact the library to renew them. If you have a library card with a barcode number ask library staff for a PIN number so that you can also renew books 24 hours a day by calling 0845 1200061 or logging onto the borrower information section of the on-line catalogue.

Apart from books what can I borrow?

All libraries have collections of Audio Books, some also have CDRoms, Compact Discs, Videos and DVD. Until 31st March 2009, these types of media are free of rental charges and they can be reserved at any library.

Junior borrowers can only borrow these items if they are within the correct age range. e.g. a 12 year old cannot borrow an 15 category video.

I suffer from dyslexia/impaired vision which makes it difficult for me to read a book. Can you help?

Audio Books on cassettes and CDs can be borrowed free of charge if you cannot manage the printed word.
