One of the aims of the "Treasures" display is to start a debate about what actually constitutes heritage "treasure". Much of the exhibition is based on a survey undertaken to allow local people their say on what they "treasure" about the heritage of the East Riding.
Are things of non-monetary value, such as dialects or landscapes, as valuable as obviously "treasure" items such as gold or silver coin hoards?
An item that is obviously "treasure" by any definition, the South Cave Celtic Sword Cache, described as "the most important archaeological find from the East Riding for a generation", will form the centrepiece of the "Treasures" display, once it has finished being conserved by the Museum of London Archaeological Service.
Another important feature of the "Treasures" display, is the space set aside for temporary displays, to be produced by local groups and societies and individuals on local historical themes of their choosing - with the assistance of the Beverley Curator, Stefan Ramsden.
