About Disability Sport

The Sport and Play Development Service 'provides support, training, advice and a coordinated approach to enhance sports provision for people with disabilities.'

The service has an officer who has a remit for working in the disability field. The main role of the officer is to work strategically with other organisations and agencies to plan and develop disability sport throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire. Two other officers within the service have a disability role, a community sports coach who has a responsibility for delivery of sessions and an officer who works with schools in providing advice and training to enhance sports provision involving young people with a disability both in school time and in the community.

The sport and play development service believes every child living in the East Riding of Yorkshire has the right to participate in sport and leisure at their chosen level. To achieve this aim the service provides a number of opportunities for people with disabilities to access. These include:

• Training

• Shared practice and partnership working with organisations.

• Sporting opportunities for people with disabilities.

• Support for special schools and children in mainstream schools.

• Support for organisations

• Summer disability sport and play programme for young people

• Grants for talented performers

The directory has been compiled to help the public communicate with inclusive and disability specific sports clubs based within East Riding of Yorkshire. It provides information on a variety of issues including sports clubs contact details, session details and further information on facility access provision.
