East Riding Sport and Recreation Strategy; Yes, Be Active Here!

SPD - East Riding Sport

Our strategic direction is driven by current national, regional and local policy around sport, play and physical activity such as 'Game Plan'- the governments national sports strategy, the Department of Health's White Paper - 'Choosing Health', the 'Yorkshire Plan for Sport' - Sport England`s regional plan, and the East Riding's 'Shared Priorities'.

Along with other council services we have helped to develop the, 'Leisure, Sport and Physical Activity Policy'. This provides the strategic framework for the development of leisure, sport and physical activity within the East Riding.

Together with community representatives and our partners we have just developed a major new Sport and Active Recreation Strategy; 'Yes, Be Active Here'. This is aimed at motivating and encouraging residents of the East Riding to lead more active lifestyles.

The strategy is not just about encouraging more people to play organised sport, it's also about enabling and encouraging people to make small changes in their daily lives, like walking to work or going for a gentle cycle ride.

The strategy has been developed following an intensive 10-month consultation across the East Riding, and will focus on encouraging and helping specific groups such as young girls and pensioners to take part more.

The Sport and Play Development Service are committed to working in partnership to develop the actions detailed in the strategy and the policy.

We are now in the process of producing an executive summary of the strategy which we will publish on the website for people to download and / or read.
