Our role

SPD - Our role

 

We will provide: 

  • Advice, consultancy and support on the development of the strategic vision for sport, play and physical activity in the East Riding.

 

  • Advice, support, training and guidance to:
  • All East Riding Schools regarding the delivery of PE and Sport in and out of the curriculum through the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP)
  • The development of school sports facilities, and the East Riding School Swimming Programme

  • All voluntary sports clubs through local club forums, regarding their development such as good practice initiatives, local training courses and opportunities for accreditation
  • Play organisations and other partners regarding the development of play projects, and outdoor play space

  • Local Authority and private sector sports and leisure facilities such as facilitating the Active England project at the Beverley Leisure Complex

  • Creation of opportunities for disabled children to participate in sport and recreation at their chosen level

  • A range of activities to increase participation, including the Summer Scorcha programme, Community Sports Coaches, Community Play Rangers, Positive Futures; that widens the activity base for young people at risk, 'Walking The Way To Health', and a range of community development initiatives

  • Working with a number of key partnerships, including the Humber Sports Partnership, East Riding Voluntary Action Service, East Riding Play Partnership, and the East Riding of Yorkshire Disabled Sports Association to meet shared outcomes and improve levels of participation in sport, play and physical activity

  • A mediation role with respect to children's play on informal recreation space, working in partnership with members of the public, town and parish councils, elected members, Humberside Playing Fields Association, community organisations and internal departments

  • Programme of generic training courses in partnership with Humber Sports Partnership and Services 2 Sport, for all coaches and potential coaches, playworkers and leaders

  • A Sport and Play Grant Aid package designed to support individuals and groups including rate relief and facility improvement grants

  • A proactive Commuted Sums Service that enables the use of Section 106 agreements to meet the sport, play, open space and recreation needs of the local community in which the Section 106 is generated

  • Access to school facilities via the Community Use of Schools process to widen the range of facilities available to the community

  • A number of healthy lifestyle initiatives including Exercise Referral,Walking the Way to Health and Weight Management

  • An information service to the East Riding community through a website and a variety of material

  • Annual consultation with our customers and partners to improve the service that we provide

  • An award winning, professional and customer orientated service, as recognised by Quest, the UK quality assurance scheme for sports development services.
