Sport Unlimited (formerly Extending Activities) is an integral part of the Government’s 5-Hour Children and Young People’s Sports Offer. The programme provides a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for Children and Young People from the "semi sporty population segment" to take part in during term time
Part of the "5 hour offer": One of the workstrands emerging from the additional £100m announced in July 2007 to give every young person (age between 5-19) the chance to do five hours of sport per week.
It is delivered through a County Sports Partnership led plan, with the involvement and ownership of local delivery organisations: School Sports Partnerships, Local Authorities and other partners.
The focus of Sport Unlimited is on engaging the 50% of Children and Young People classed as "semi sporty" who are probably currently only undertaking 2 to 3 hours sport per week and who need additional support and encouragement to reach 5 hours per week.
By targeting the "semi-sporty" types we are trying to bring about a behavioural change for young people by encouraging them to participate regularly in ‘out of school’ and community sport activities.
Total delivery funding available for year two is £51,559.20. The target number of young people aged 5-19 to take up an additional 2 hours across the East Riding is 1769.
