Fuel poverty

The Warm Front Team logo

Millions of households in the United Kingdom cannot afford sufficient warmth for health and comfort. This results from a combination of factors including low household income; poor quality housing; inefficient and expensive heating systems; and the circumstances of the individual household where age, ill-health or disability mean increased demand for warm homes.

Along with the other initiatives and ideas you may have already seen on our site we want to help those households defined as "fuel poor". Remember we have FREE advice available from our Advice Team on Energy Efficiency, as well as the handy hints pages on this site. Please don't hesitate to contact us.

Financial help is available from Warm Front Scheme which is funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, provides grants of up to £3,500 for heating and insulation measures in low income and other vulnerable households and up to £6,000 if oil heating is needed.

The scheme is focused mainly on the private sector and to qualify you must:

  • be in receipt of designated income related benefit and have a child under 16
  • be in receipt of a designated disability related benefit or Disabled Person's Tax Credit
  • be aged 60 years or over and in receipt of an income related benefit.
