"A school lunch can provide the necessary energy to cope with the demands of the day"
The council's Catering Unit works together with schools to help them provide a healthy balanced diet, operate within statutory guidelines and follows catering industry best practice. The schools offer a wide range of food with, where possible, choices on each course.
Be allergy aware
The Anaphylaxis campaign states that even the most extreme form of allergy – anaphylaxis – is manageable in schools and cross contamination can be significantly lowered by washing hands with soap after eating/handling nuts. We recommend you visit the Allergy in Schools website for accurate, reliable information on managing allergies in schools.
What is on offer for the children?

Nutritional Analysis
The government's Nutrient Based Standards have been introduced to ensure that your child’s school lunch is correctly balanced.
This was successfully introduced into Primary schools September 2008 and ensures that the meals achieve the 14 nutrient based standards that are required to achieve compliance.
The standards also apply to Secondary school meals and this has to be achieved by September 2009.
