Breathing new life into a much-loved landmark...
The Spa Bridlington has been a vital part of the region's life for over one hundred years. It is a much cherished local landmark that hosts national and international events, enriching Bridlington's cultural life and economy. East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with the assistance of the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward, are funding redevelopment and refurbishment of the building to develop its traditional role for the future.
The classic 1930's ballroom and Edwardian theatre have been retained whilst state-of-the-art technology and new modern facilities are being added to give it a 21st century edge. Major elements of the redevelopment project include: a new main entrance and alterations to the South Marine Drive elevation; remodelling of the north end of the building with the construction of a two-storey conference suite; the addition of new glazed bays to the Promenade elevation and extensive repair and refurbishment of the Royal Hall and Spa Theatre.
When they reopen in 2008, the Royal Hall and Spa Theatre will host the very best in drama, music, dancing, comedy, sports and more. Already a key touring venue for top bands (prior to closing The Spa hosted the likes of White Stripes, Keane and Travis), the Royal Hall will be able to hold concerts with audiences of up to 3750 people.
New and refurbished rooms of different sizes will be available for hire for events, conferences, exhibitions, weddings and meetings. Many of the rooms give stunning views onto the beach, promenade and sea and all are being built with state-of-the-art technical and catering facilities.
The Spa Bridlington's sheer size, character and history make it a venue with a difference. The refurbishment of this local landmark will enable it to attract tourists, audiences and corporate clients at regional, national and international levels. By improving access and internal services and restoring the traditional rooms to their original splendour, The Spa Bridlington will be able to perform to the highest standards for many years to come.
