History of the Plan

This web version of the Boothferry Local Plan has been created in 2003 from the original published documents. The maps and legends in the web version have been scanned directly from their printed copies. The Written Statement has been converted from scanned PDF files and recompiled as HTML pages using optical character recognition (OCR) software.

Overview of the Website

The website has been divided into a left and right frame. Both frames are scrollable, either up/down or left/right. The left frame always contains the legend(s) to the maps within the Plan. The right frame contains either the Written Statement or the Plan's maps. In its default setting the right frame contains the contents to the Written Statement.

The Legend

The Legend is a key and summary to the graphic depiction of the various polices contained within the Plan's maps. When a Plan map is displayed in the right frame, please refer to the Legend to identify the policies shown.

Legend 'Point and Click' Links

The Legend panel provides 'Point and Click' links to other areas of the Plan web-site. Moving the arrow cursor over the panel will identify these links by changing the arrow to a hand. A text prompt will appear identifying where the 'Point and Click' link will take the user when moving arrow cursor over individual entries in the legend. The following parts of the Plan can be selected by 'Point and Click' from the Legend Panel

The Written Statement

The Written Statement provides comprehensive details of the Local Plan and its polices. The Statement is divided into chapters covering the main policy themes such as Environment, Employment and Housing.

Written Statement 'Point and Click' links

From the Written Statement Contents (default page in right frame) the user can select the following:

Some polices within the Written Statement are linked to maps within the Local Plan, but only if that policy is unique to that map. The words 'Click for map' will appear over a policy if it has a link to a map.

The Maps

To aid navigation a Locator Map of the Boothferry area has been created from which all of the Local Plan maps can be selected. The Locator Map can also be selected from the Legend panel and doing so will replace the contents page in the right frame.

The Locator Map is divided into sections using a grid. Each section of the Locator Map grid links to a corresponding section of the Main Proposals Map. All polices that are shown on the Main Proposals map are linked to the section of the Written Statement that describes them. The words 'Click for text description' will appear if a map policy has a link.

From the sections of the Main Proposals map it is possible to select individual Inset maps for all key settlements within Boothferry. It is possible to move to other sections of the Main Proposals map by clicking the North, South, East and West arrow buttons that border each map section or by clicking the 'Back to Main Map' button at the top of the page. This button returns the user to the Locator Map from which another section of the Main Proposals Map can be selected from the grid.

Please note that individual Inset maps can also be selected from the 'Choose an inset map' drop-down menu near the top of the Legend Panel.

The Inset maps have been scanned from their original printed versions. The printed maps range in size from A4 to A1 and this size variation is reflected in the way the maps are presented on the website.

Large settlement maps (e.g. settlements such as Goole) have been seamlessly tiled into smaller map sections. An overview map with a grid allows the user to select sections of the map for closer examination. It is possible to move to other sections of a large settlement map by clicking the North, South, East and West arrow buttons that border each map section or by clicking the words 'Back to overview map' at the top of the map. From the overview map the user can then select a new section of the grid.

Medium sized maps of Settlements have been split into two halves, either left/right or top/bottom depending on whether their original prints were landscape or portrait respectively. A small 'interim' map of the entire settlement has been created from which either half can be selected by point and click. The second half of a map can be selected from the first half by clicking on the appropriate directional arrow that appears of the border of the map – i.e. E/W or N/S.

Small sized maps of Settlements are shown in their entirety as one map image.

The user can return to the overview map from any map by clicking the 'Back to Main Map' button.

If interchanging between the written statement and the maps, the user can also use the 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons within the toolbar of their web browser.

Map 'Point and Click' Links

The maps, when shown at their largest viewing size, have links from polices identified on the map to the Written Statement. When the user moves the cursor arrow over the map policy the words 'Click for text description' will appear. The map will be replaced in the frame by the section of the Written Statement that describes the policy. Please note that some policies are identified on the map by text (e.g. 'E21') and some are identified by symbols (e.g. an acorn or a tree).

If interchanging between the written statement and the maps, the user can use the 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons within the toolbar of their web browser.
