APPENDICES

APPENDIX A

Environmental Appraisal

1.0 An environmental appraisal was undertaken on the Deposit Plan as required by PPG12 `Development Plans and Regional Planning Guidance'.

2.0 The environment appraisal was in two stages:

i) Appraisal of spacial strategy

ii) Analysis of site allocations and policies

3.1 Eight key spacial strategy objectives have been identified in the Deposit Plan. In compatibility matrix each of these objectives is examined against every other objective. This highlights which combination of objectives are compatible with an overall objective to provide sustainable development and which have undesirable environmental consequences.

4.0 Analysis of Site Allocations and Policies

4.1 The next stage of the environmental appraisal was to test site allocations and other policies against a set of criteria covering global sustainability, natural resources and local environmental quality. These are listed in the Policy Impact Matrix.

APPENDIX B

Flat Conversion Standards

The conversion of dwellings to flats should comply with the following criteria:

i) The internal arrangements of the flats to be such that upper storey living rooms do not share dividing walls with bedrooms of adjoining properties.

ii) Provision for the parking of residents cars within the site curtilage where there is sufficient space and where such provisions will not be detrimental to the amenities of the residents and neighbours.

iii) Conversion work to be carried out within the confines of the existing building.

iv) The internal arrangement of the altered building to be such that each flat is largely selfcontained.

v) In the case of conversions of terraced and semi detached houses, adequate noise insulation between flats and between the flats and neighbouring dwellings, and adequate fire retarding walls to be continued into roof spaces if such walls are absent.
