Humberside Safety Camera Partnership highlights the worst crash sites in your area - North East Lincolnshire
Statistics released by Humberside Safety Camera Partnership show that the areas of North East Lincolnshire with the highest incidence of serious injury and fatal collisions are also the areas where a high proportion of motorists flout the speed limit.
The figures highlight in shocking detail why Humberside Safety Camera Partnership is trying to reduce speed at known collision hot-spots across the former Humberside region.
Among the areas with the worst records is Great Coates Road in Grimsby (a 40mph zone), where, between 1999 and 2001, there were 11 injury crashes and five people were killed or seriously injured, including a child. Astonishingly, 39 per cent of the traffic travelling along this route during the same period exceeded the speed limit.
There were also five people killed or seriously injured on Laceby Road in Grimsby (a 30mph zone), yet 46 per cent of the traffic exceeded the speed limit on this route.
Derek Edgerton, North East Lincolnshire Council’s representative on the Humberside Safety Camera Partnership Board, commented: “All of the sites where we use safety cameras have a history of collisions and excessive speed, but the statistics for these two sites are particularly shocking.
“No-one wants to have a fatal collision on their conscience for the rest of their lives, so please slow down and drive safely
