New Safety Camera Motorbike & Mobile Gatso
Humberside Safety Camera Partnership is this week launching a specially adapted safety camera motorbike to enforce the speed limit at the regions worst crash sites.

The motorbike is a police standard Honda 1100 Pan-European which is marked up in the police livery. Mike Harris project manager said "The bike can operate at any of the 87 safety camera sites across the region, but will be concentring on the sites where the Partnership has be unable to construct the special enforcement platforms for the mobile vans."
He continued, "Humberside is one of the small number of safety camera partnerships able to use a motorbike for enforcement. We already have three enforcement officers who are trained advanced motorcyclists, so we are able to utilise their skills to the full. The motorbike can be quickly converted back to a normal Police bike if needed to support other police operations."

The Partnership is also using two bright orange mobile Gatso cameras to ensure that speed enforcement continues through the dark winter nights. The mobile Gatso cameras are mounted on the side of the road and take two photographs, half a second apart, to measure the speed of a vehicle. Speeding vehicles can only trigger the radar beam; motorists driving within the speed limit have nothing to fear.
Humberside Safety Camera Partnership enforces the speed limit at the 87 worst crash sites within the region. Each site has a history of crashes, the Department has audited casualties and speeding and all sites for Transport, the Government department responsible for managing the scheme. Details of all the sites can be found on the Partnerships new look website www.humbersidesafetycameras.com
Mick Harris said "The whole aim of the project is to reduce the number of deaths on our roads by getting motorists to drive safely and appropriately within the speed limit at all times. During our first year of operation the number of people killed or seriously injured at safety camera sites dropped by 53 per cent. This new equipment allows the Partnership to hopefully build upon this early success, as it allows us to cover all 87 core safety camera sites more effectively and at all times of the day. Ultimately the choice to speed is the drivers, we hope that all motorist choose to slow down."
