Christmas Rush - Winter 2004

Humberside Safety Camera Partnership is reminding drivers to take it safely at Christmas by not getting caught up in the Christmas rush. The poster above will be featuring on 40 buses across the region during December and shows a head-on crash. The poster is complimented by a radio advert that reminds drivers to take extra care during the holiday season.
Mick Harris safety camera project manager offers the following advice ”During the Christmas season it is easy to get distracted as you think of your Christmas preparations. You may feel that you’re permanently in a rush to get everything done in time for the big day and this may spill over into your driving. However, we urge drivers to take a moment to clear your head before switching on your engines, so that you can fully concentrate on your driving. Spend a bit of time making sure your vehicle is prepared for the winter conditions and give yourself plenty of time. We urge everyone to drive safely and appropriately within the speed limit at all times and hopefully you will have a happy and safe Christmas.”

'Wreckage' Road Safety Week Feature - Autumn 2004

After 21 years working as a traffic policeman Howard Fordham is only too aware of the devastation caused by a road traffic accident - both for victims and those around them.
Now his desire to reduce the number of accidents in the East Riding has led to Howard working for the Humberside Safety Camera Partnership. A job, which he says, is highly rewarding with the latest figures showing a massive 53% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured at safety camera sites.
"I have been to hundreds of accidents over the last 21 years and seen some horrific injuries but each one still affects me. When I drive up to an accident I never quite know what is going to greet me but you just get on with the job, it is afterwards that it can affect you," said Howard.
Having worked as a family liaison officer Howard has also seen how a serious injury or fatal accident can affect a family and how that extends to the people around them. "It is a highly emotional time and no two people react in the same way," added Howard.
It is this knowledge of how a road crash can affect lives that has led to Howard's passion to see a reduction in the number of accidents on our roads. It is not all about speeding drivers either; working for accident investigation Howard had a chance to look at other issues such as driver training and engineering problems.
Humberside Safety Camera Partnership is running a campaign during November with the catchword “Wreckage” which aims to highlight the effects road accidents have on family and friends. The Partnership urges motorists to drive safely and appropriately within the speed limit at all times.
Take It Safely - Summer 2004
Humberside Safety Camera Partnership has been reminding drivers to Take It Safely during the summer holidays. Drivers are warned to take extra care whilst children are out and about. The picture at the top of this page has been turned into a poster, which is being displayed on the back of buses across the region during August. This message is being echoed on a short advert, which can be heard on Viking and Magic radio.
The Partnerships always advises motorists to drive safely and appropriately within the speed limit at all times.
Bike Safe - Summer 2004
