Introduce your children to an exciting world of animals at Sewerby Zoo. Come and meet a whole variety of domestic and wild animals from various countries, such as the delightful small pygmy goats from Africa and llamas from South America.
Amongst our resident birds are many species of Pheasant, some of which are endangered in the wild and which breed at Sewerby. Some rank as the most beautiful birds in the world, such as the Indian Blue Peafowl, Golden Pheasant and Temmincks Tragopan.
The walk-through aviary gives you a wonderful close-up view of these birds as well as the beautiful Mandarin Ducks and the endangered Laysan Teal and Marble Teal. If you are lucky you may see a group of ducklings with their mother.
A big favourite at the zoo is the colony of Humboldt Penguins, especially at feeding time where they can be seen swimming for fish in their newly refurbished pool. The Humboldt Penguin is endangered in the wild but the group at Sewerby breed on a regular basis.
There are many more animals to see at the zoo such as Shetland Ponies, Capuchin Monkeys, Alpacas and our four new Lemurs to name but a few.
