A Brief History
The house was built 1714-1720 by John Greame. Bow wings and a portico were added in 1808-1811. Later additions include an Orangery and dining room. More information can be found on our History page.
Period Rooms
The Swinton Room, the Halifax Room and the Orangery were all restored and decorated between 1993 and 1995. These days, the magnificent ground floor Orangery and The Swinton Room provide wonderful settings for civil marriage ceremonies, concerts & piano recitals, meetings, seminars, educational activities, art workshops and tea dances. For more information on room hire visit our Functions & Conference Facilities page.
The Amy Johnson Room
The first floor room was given over to Amy Johnson memorabilia in 1959. This collection was a gift from Amy's father in October 1958, and consists of various souvenirs and mementoes presented to Amy and her husband, Jim Mollison. Since then, additional material received from other sources has further enhanced the Amy Johnson Collection. More information can be found on the Amy Johnson page.
Galleries and Exhibitions
The galleries display temporary exhibitions of artwork and photographs. For more information visit Events and Galleries and Exhibitions.
