Carers Charter
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council aims to improve support to carers who are recognised as providing a substantial amount of care within the community.
The Council has therefore adopted a Carers' Charter:
- Carers should be recognised as individuals with their own expertise, skills and needs
- Carers should be able to make informed choices about taking on/ continuing the role of carer
- People should not make assumptions about a carers ability to provide care on the basis of race, culture, age, disability or sexual orientation
- Carers should be regularly consulted and have the opportunity to be fully involved, individually and collectively at all levels
- Carers should have available information that is accurate, honest, comprehensive and accessible
- Carers should have available a range of appropriate and flexible services to be available to carers, which meets individual needs
- Carers should be informed about available benefits
- All agencies should work together to provide efficient and affective services for carers
