Sensory Impairment Team
The council has a specialist team who work specifically with people who have a visual or hearing impairment or loss. This team carries out assessment to identify a person’s individual needs under the council’s eligibility criteria.
Services / facilities available
- The team undertakes assessments of a person's needs with the focus being on sensory issues.
- Care plans are provided, which identify those needs that the council are responsible for meeting under the eligibility criteria.
- Advice and information is provided to members of the public, other agencies/organisations and to departments within the local authority.
- Equipment may be provided as appropriate to meet the needs identified in the care plan.
- Care plans are available in Brail and or large print.
- Ongoing support is provided to individuals and their families.
- The team undertake the registration of disability (for deaf and hard of hearing).
Please be aware that the East Riding of Yorkshire Council does charge for some services and equipment (see below for further details).
How to access the services available
If you would like to discuss these or any of other services mentioned in more detail, please contact one of the 13 Customer Service Centres who will refer your contact to the appropriate team. On receipt of the information, the Disability and Sensory Impairment team will make contact with you and, if requested, undertake an assessment of the person's needs.
