Who are we?

Most people want to stay in their own home for as long as possible but need assistance in tackling the problems of housing repairs or adaptations. We are a Home Improvement Agency, jointly funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR).

Who can we help?

We can help older and disabled home-owners and private tenants living in the East Riding to improve, repair and adapt their property, enabling them to stay put at home in greater comfort and security.

Who will pay for the works?

We will be happy to assist you access information on the different ways for paying for the work. If you are on a low income or receive a means tested benefit such as Income Support or Council Tax Benefit, you may qualify for grant aid from the Council. The Staying Put Agency will apply for a grant on your behalf including filling in all forms and consulting with the grants officer, occupational therapist, architects and any other professionals involved. We will also advise you if you have to make a contribution towards the works.

What will the services of the Staying Put Agency cost me?

The advisory services of the Agency will cost you nothing. We offer confidential advice, support and assistance which you are free to accept or reject. If you decide to go ahead with the work, we are obliged to charge a small fee (10%) based on the cost of the works, however, this fee can be included as part of any grant you are entitled to. We will always tell you if you have to make any payment before we commit you to any charges.

Our Service Standards

We aim to ensure that everyone using our services is given the best care possible. We are committed to the effective promotion and delivery of good quality services to enable people to get the most from later life.

You can also make use of the Council Comments, Compliments and Complaints procedure. Copies of the leaflet are available in all Customer Service Centres.
