Household waste recycling sites (HWRS)
There are 10 HWRS across the East Riding. The facilities are for the disposal of household waste only and they are designed to recycle the maximum amount of material taken to the site.
Nearly all kinds of household waste can be disposed of at HWRS for recycling. Each of the 10 HWRS consistently achieve monthly recycling rates of between 60-80 per cent, peaking around 85 per cent in summer. In 2005/06 nearly 70,000 tonnes of waste was disposed of by East Riding residents across the 10 HWRS. Thankfully most of this was recycled!
The staff at the sites are there to assist you so if you are unsure of anything or require assistance just ask. Be patient though as they are often very busy.
Household Waste Recycling Site, Carnaby
A van and large trailer ban is in operation at all 10 HWRS. This was introduced in August 2001 with the aim of preventing people trying to dispose of commercial waste at the sites. We do permit one-off trips to your local HWRS with a van or large trailer to dispose of your household waste, but you will be asked to fill in a Waste Declaration Form upon your arrival and before you can tip. If you intend to make more than one visit then you MUST apply for permits which are free of charge. For information on obtaining a permit, contact the permit hotline on 01482 395581.
There is a weight limit of 3.5 tonnes for permit holders, on the grounds of Health and Safety.

Opening times
All 10 household waste recycling sites are open from 10am to 6pm seven days a week. The sites are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, but are open all other holiday periods.
The sites are operated by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) on behalf of the council.
