The Driffield Partnership is giving local people a chance to view a new vision for the Riverhead area in Driffield at the town council offices, 2-4 Market Walk, between 10 am and 3pm on Monday, 8th and Tuesday, 9th February 2010.   The vision is a part of the concept statement developed by Driffield Navigation Trust and East Riding of Yorkshire, Planning and Economic Regeneration.  The concept statement sets out the type of development and uses we would like to see.

The concept statement covers the area south of the town centre including the railway station and land adjacent to the head of the Driffield Navigation.  The statement includes guiding principle for investment and supports the Driffield Navigation Trust's and the Driffield Navigation Amenity Association’s bid to further restore the waterway and create improved facilities for visitors to ensure that Riverhead continues to thrive. The project group also considered how to make the most of links with the countryside and the rest of the town.

David Hamilton, Driffield Navigation Trust, said: “The concept statement embodies our vision for the future development of this historic and valuable area of Driffield in the context of the restoration of Navigation as a whole. We hope we can use this vision to inspire the various funding bodies to support the valuable work done by our teams of volunteers over the last 40 years. Let’s see the job completed!”

Helen Jackson, Renaissance co-ordinator, said “The display of the concept statement is the last stage of a three-month consultation period and everybody is welcome to come along and have a look at the ideas the group have developed.  The Riverhead is a unique place and we want to ensure that its character is protected as well planning and attracting investment into Driffield and the Navigation.”
