    Introduction

If you're an adult living with a disability in the East Riding of Yorkshire, there are a number of ways to find support to help you live your life as independently as possible.

If you have recently become disabled, whether from an accident, injury, or illness, you can find general information about your rights and what you're entitled to on the government website.

You do not have to register as disabled, but it can help you access some services and concessions if you choose to. Find out more about registering as disabled.

To find information about living in the East Riding of Yorkshire with a disability, you can find this on our general help and advice for people with disabilities page.

    Learning disability

In addition to the support available for all people with a disability, there are some services specifically in place to support those with learning disabilities.

If you are looking for work opportunities, see Worklink for specific help, support and guidance for employees with a learning disability.

You can have your say about how services are run for people with disabilities by getting involved with the local learning disability partnership board.

    Vision and hearing support

You don’t need to have a complete loss of hearing or sight to be considered sensory impaired - anyone with reduced hearing, vision, or both, may fall into this group.

This applies to anyone with a vision or hearing impairment such as:

    • deafness or hearing loss
    • blindness, sight loss, or visual impairment
    • deafblindness.

We have a dedicated sensory impairment team who can help you with practical advice and support to make your day-to-day life easier.

You can find helpful advice and resources and how to contact our sensory impairment team on our vision and hearing support page.
