Holiday Activities and Food

Book Easter, summer and Christmas school holiday activities for children and young people in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, and families who receive council tax support, from Reception to Year 11 (4-16 years old). Paid places are also now available on the programme too. Learn about the HAF programme and how to become a provider.

Who is the programme for?

Children and young people who are eligible for HAF can get four funded places at Easter, four at Christmas, and up to 16 free places during the summer holidays. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

All HAF providers also offer paid places alongside the free HAF places, so more children and young people can enjoy fun activities during the school holidays. Availability, age ranges and costs will vary by provider.

HAF providers

Here is a list of all the organisations who have received an annual grant to deliver activities in the holidays. You can find out more information about their sessions and how to book by signing up to the Newsletter and all schools will receive details about their programmes too.

All providers listed below will be providing activities in all 3 holiday periods across the East Riding for the HAF programme.

More providers will be awarded a grant to deliver activities in the Easter, summer and Christmas school holidays too.

Could you be a HAF delivery partner?

If you can provide fun activities in the Easter, summer or Christmas holidays for children and/or young people, please get in touch with us to find out all about our grant funding scheme at haf.programme@eastriding.gov.uk We're looking for a wide range of activities from magic workshops to animal experiences, water sports to music sessions and everything in between.

What does a good HAF session look like?

It's difficult to know what to expect as each HAF programme is very unique, but a good session will have:

  • a welcoming and inclusive environment
  • thoughtful, inspiring and friendly staff and volunteers who relate well to children and young people
  • a combination of child and adult led age-appropriate activities with periods of noise and quietness
  • activities and conversations that raise awareness of healthy eating and healthy lifestyles, plus a free meal
  • a space to get away from activities if things become too overwhelming, with creative staff to ensure everyone can take part
  • helpful staff who can signpost families to additional support and information, such as the Cost of living - help for households webpage on eastriding.gov.uk.

All HAF delivery partners have met our operating standards:

  • All staff and volunteers must hold a valid DBS and have undertaken safeguarding training
  • A qualified first aider must be present when delivering the programme
  • Activities and venues are assessed, with measures put in place to manage identified risks
  • All staff to adhere to their organisation's governance (safeguarding, safer recruitment, equality, privacy and health and safety policies)
  • Partners hold public and employer's liability insurance to a sum of £5 million.

About HAF

There are over 9,000 children and young people in the East Riding who are in receipt of free school meals, and with rising food, living and fuel costs, HAF enables families to enjoy a healthy meal and enriching activities during the holidays.
