When are the meetings?

Meetings of full council take place every six weeks.

Seating in the public gallery is limited, therefore places must be booked in advance by contacting the Committee Manager on the contact details below. Members of the public and press are encouraged to view proceedings on the council's committee YouTube channel where the meeting can be viewed live, or at a later date.

Are meetings open to the public?

Yes. All meetings of full council are open to the public but there may be some matters which will be considered in private. During such situations members of the public will be asked to leave the meeting at this point. The circumstances under which we can consider matters in private are tightly controlled by law.

Refreshments

Please note: refreshments are not normally available for members of the public to access at meetings.

Can I record, film, take photographs or use social media during meetings?

Yes, new legislation means that you can film, record, take photos and use social media during open meetings. For more information please visit the photography, filming and social media use page.

How and when can I view the agenda and minutes of meetings?

Agenda

Agendas and reports for full council meetings are placed on public deposit five clear working days before each meeting and can be viewed by selecting the relevant agenda below.

Reports containing exempt or confidential matters will not, however, be available.

Minutes

Please note: minutes of full council meetings are placed on public deposit no later than five clear working days after each meeting and can be viewed by selecting the relevant minute below.

What happens at annual council meetings?

At the annual meeting of the council a new chairman and vice chairman is elected for the year. The Chairman or Vice Chairman chair council meetings and also fulfil all ceremonial and civic roles on behalf of the council. Also, at the annual meeting of the council, the Leader and Deputy Leader of the council are elected and members of the Cabinet and committee chairmen and vice chairmen are appointed.

The annual council meeting takes place in May of each year.

Can members of the public ask a question at meetings?

Any elector registered within the East Riding may ask a question of the leader of the council or chairman of any non-executive committee or overview and scrutiny committee at ordinary council meetings.

Please note: the elector or delegate must present the question at the meeting in order for it to be considered.

Questions must be submitted in writing, and must be received no later than 4pm eight working days before the meeting.
