The Pocklington Neighbourhood Plan and Design Guide 2022-2039, prepared by Pocklington Town Council, has been submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for examination. The council must now publicise the plan proposal and accompanying documents and seek comments.

The Pocklington Neighbourhood Plan area covers the whole of the Civil Parish of Pocklington and provides general policies and a design guide for development in Pocklington. The Neighbourhood Plan also includes a series of 'concept statements' for each allocated site set out in the East Riding Local Plan to help guide developers towards a design solution that accord with community aspirations.

Important issues, on which the neighbourhood plan provides further planning policy and guidance, include:

  • Managing Pocklington's Growth in relation to new development, changes in land use, public realm improvements and other infrastructure projects
  • Design Principles for development in Pocklington in accordance with the Pocklington Design Guide and Codes
  • Maintaining the seven key Radial Routes which provide the town's primary vehicular and pedestrian access, as well as overall connectivity
  • Providing Housing Quality, including guidance on housing mix, affordable housing, design and adaptability
  • Environment (achieving biodiversity net gain and supporting nature recovery)
  • Integrated and Sustainable Transport
  • Economy and Employment (including the Town Centre and the Pocklington Industrial Estate)
  • Community & Leisure (in relation to Important Community Amenities)

Once adopted, the neighbourhood plan will become an important consideration in determining relevant planning applications within the Pocklington Neighbourhood Area.
