How can I find out if the council has any land, development sites or buildings to rent, lease or sell?

You will need to consult the valuation and estates section, who will handle the enquiry and negotiate the price or rent should the property you are interested in be available.

We also publicise which properties are on the market to buy or rent.

What type of buildings are we responsible for?

The council is responsible for a variety of buildings throughout the county.

Which properties does the council own or have an interest in?

We have a very large portfolio of property to administer across the county. This consists of residential and non-residential property. In compliance with the Government's Data Transparency guidelines we publish a list of this property:

However we do not publish, as part of this list and as defined in the guidelines, social housing, rent free properties provided by traders, operational railways, canals, public highways, assets of national security and information deemed to be inappropriate for public access as a result of data protection and/or disclosure controls (such as refuge houses).

What is the role of the asset strategy department?

Asset strategy is the lead department for the promotion of asset management initiatives, and the corporate landlord working with national bodies including the Institute for Public Finance (IPF) and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The department works in partnership with regional and local partners including the NHS Primary Care Trust, Police, Fire Brigade and local community groups adopt a more coordinated, efficient and customer focused approach towards the provision of services and asset management through co-location of services.

Our service incorporates:

  • strategic capital and revenue investment, asset management, review and development;
  • land, property and infrastructure core data;
  • housing development;
  • schools asset management and capital programme;
  • local transport policy and strategy, including highways asset management.
