2.Regional benefits

The devolution proposal will bring significant new investment into the area, helping to create more job opportunities, including:

Better housing

£4.6 million for the building of new homes on brownfield land in 2024 / 25.

New powers to drive regeneration and build more affordable homes.

Better transport

A commitment to rail electrification between Hull and Sheffield, and Hull and Leeds, integrating East Yorkshire into the Northern Powerhouse Rail network.

New powers to improve and integrate the regional transport network, with a multimillion pound integrated transport budget.

Better infrastructure

Up to £15 million in 2024 / 25 to support transport, flood and coastal erosion programmes across the area, including a coastal regeneration programme in the East Riding.

More investment

£400 million (£13.34 million a year) investment funding over 30 years, to drive growth and deliver local priorities.

£5 million in 2024 / 25 to support local economic growth priorities, including any further expansion of Siemens Gamesa at Alexandra Dock in Hull.

More skills

Raising skills levels so that people can access more economic opportunities. New powers to shape local skills provision, including devolution of the core adult education budget.

More jobs

A commitment for government to consider the development of a specialist med-tech business park in Hull, including exploring support for Phase One of the project, subject to further discussions. Support for expanding offshore wind manufacturing in the area.

Devolution could bring about important change in Hull and East Yorkshire. Thank you for having your say during the public consultation, which took place between 2 January 2024 and 27 February 2024. Your views have helped inform the decision to progress to the next stage of the deal.
