Introduction

The Pride in Place Programme, announced in September 2025, is a new government initiative that will invest up to £19.6 million over ten years to support meaningful, long-term change in two East Riding areas:

• Bridlington West
• Withernsea East and Patrington.
  
  

About the Pride in Place programme

The programme provides long‑term, flexible funding that allows communities to shape the future of their neighbourhoods.

Through locally led decision‑making, guided by Neighbourhood Boards, it supports improvements to high streets, green spaces, transport, skills development and community facilities, with a strong emphasis on community‑led regeneration.

To identify the places facing the greatest challenges the government chose the funded areas by looking at two measures of local need:

• the Index of Multiple Deprivation

Areas will receive initial funding from April 2026 to establish the programme. Full programme delivery is expected to begin in April 2027, with funding rising to around £2 million per area each year from 2028 onwards.

Regeneration plans will be developed locally and submitted to government by November 2026 for approval. This will ensure that the proposals reflect community priorities and deliver long term benefits.

How the programme works

Local areas will develop regeneration plans that reflect community priorities. These will be submitted to the government by November 2026 for approval. A central feature of the programme is the creation of Neighbourhood Boards, made up of:

• residents
• local businesses
• workplace representatives
• community leaders.

Supported by the council and local MPs, these boards will help shape and approve investment plans and lead engagement with residents, businesses and grassroots organisations to ensure funding goes where it is most needed.

What is happening in the East Riding

People living and working in the Bridlington West and Withernsea East and Patrington Pride in Place areas will have the opportunity to influence how Pride in Place funding is allocated. This includes early engagement activity in 2026 as Neighbourhood Boards are established.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is working with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (MHCLG) to progress the programme and support its rollout locally.

Recruitment of Neighbourhood Boards

The Neighbourhood Board will be made up of at least eight local representatives, including an independent Chair.

As the Accountable Body, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is leading the development of the Board. It is responsible for managing funds and overseeing governance to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The council will not take part in the selection process and will act as an observer only.

Membership will be resident‑led and reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood, including factors such as:

• age
• ethnicity
• gender
• faith
• disability
• income.
