The King’s Coronation Community Fund

East Riding of Yorkshire Council established a new small grant fund to support communities across the East Riding which were organising celebratory activities on or around the Coronation of King Charles III taking place on 6 May 2023. Town and parish councils were eligible to apply for grants between 1 February 2023 and 3 April 2023. The grant fund was very popular and a list of 127 projects supported can be found on this page.

What is The King’s Coronation Community Fund?

East Riding of Yorkshire Council established a new small grant fund to support communities across the East Riding which were planning to organise celebratory activities on or around the Coronation of King Charles III taking place on Saturday, 6 May 2023.

Who is eligible to apply for The King’s Coronation Community Fund?

Applicants to the fund must either be a parish council or a town council based in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Parish and town councils could apply in partnership with other groups or organisations (for example, schools, village hall associations) as long as the parish or town council was the lead applicant. Parish and town councils were encouraged to disseminate details of the fund and liaise with other interested groups or organisations within their communities before submitting an application.

What will The King’s Coronation Community Fund support?

The Fund was available to help with the costs of appropriate related activities (for example, community events, big lunches, street decorations, themed artwork, commemorative benches and plaques etc). Applicants could apply for a maximum of £500 and a minimum of £100 per project. Successful projects must be directly related to The King's Coronation and demonstrate appropriate community benefit and/or community input.

The grants supported a wide range of community activities relating to the Coronation and helped to promote community engagement, inclusion, partnership working and volunteering.

How do I apply for The King’s Coronation Community Fund?

Town and parish councils were able to apply for grants via the council's Flexi-Grant system between 1 February 2023 and 3 April 2023.
