What is the VE Day 75th Anniversary Community Fund?

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has established a new small grant fund (approximately £20,000) to support communities across the East Riding which are planning to hold commemorative events up to, and around, the 8th, 9th and 10th May 2020.

More information regarding the VE Day 75th Anniversary can be found at the website:

VE Day 75 (external website)

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the announcement from the the Government that public gatherings should cease until further notice, East Riding of Yorkshire Council have taken the following decision with regards the VE Day Anniversary Fund:

  • We will support successul applications to commemorate VE Day that are 'non-public gathering' at the present time until further notice.
  • Depending on the COVID-19 situation Government guidance, it is hoped that we will be able to use the Fund later in August this year to commemorate the VJ Day Anniversary.  We will be happy to consider the applications already received if this is something your Parish or Town Council would like to do.

Thank you to those Parish and Town Councils who have already applied for a grant.  We have up to this point had a lot of interest in this fund.  If you wish to remove your current application please contact rural@eastriding.gov.uk

We will provide further information in due course but kindly request that no further applications involving public gatherings are submitted until further notice.

Who is eligible to apply for the VE Day 75th Anniversary Community Fund?

All Parish and Town Councils in the East Riding are eligible to apply to the community fund. Parish and Town Councils may apply in partnership with other groups or organisations (e.g schools, village hall associations) should they wish, as long as the Parish or Town Council is the lead applicant. Parish and Town Councils are encouraged to liaise with other interested organisations within their communities before submitting an application.

What will the VE Day 75th Anniversary Community Fund support?

The fund will be available to help with the costs of appropriate related events (e.g. community activities, exhibitions, street decorations, themed artwork). Applicants can apply for a maximum of £500 and a minimum of £100 per project.
