Independent care sector provider learning and development

Learning and development opportunities to the independent care sector in East Riding.

What learning and development opportunities are available to the independent care sector provider?

A range of learning and development is available for East Riding Independent Care Sector providers with whom the council has a contract. This learning and development complements the mandatory provision that each provider carries out.

The resources, courses, and events that are currently available can be found in the Calendar of Events and the Learning and Development Index. These can be found on Adult Social Care LeadER Our Events, which can be accessed on:

Adult Social Care LeadER Events (external website)

We identify and develop the resources, courses and events through our monitoring visits, feedback from Safeguarding Adults Team, Care Quality Commission and requests. We work closely with our colleagues in Health to develop learning that supports with preventing unnecessary admission to hospital, supporting timely, safe discharge and with caring for people who have long term conditions.

Who can access the training?

Our offer is available to all Independent Care Service providers that have a contract to support an East Riding service user. Sometimes resources, course or events are specifically for workers in residential care or domiciliary care. Details of when this applies are provided in the Learning and Development Index and in the Calendar of Events.

Some courses or events are offered to equip one or two workers from a Provider so that they can cascade the learning to their colleagues. This is known as Train the Trainer or Champion training.

Is there a charge for training?

No, there is no charge for attending any courses or events unless this is specifically stated, however, in some cases, we may charge a fee for late cancellations.

If you cancel within 3 working days of the course/event taking place, we will in some cases make a £20.00 charge per learner.

This charge covers part of the costs associated with providing the course/event.

How do I book places on a course?

We operate an online booking request process, which enables the person making the request to confirm the learner’s details and the course they wish to attend. We use this information to check availability and book a place for the learner, which we will confirm in an email.

The Application to attend a learning event online form is available on the 'our events' area of Adult Social Care LeadER where you can also find the calendar of events and the learning and development index.

You can access the Our Events area via the following link:
