Title: Amy at Bournemouth
Item Name: Amy Johnson

Description:

Digital copy of a black and white photograph showing Amy Johnson's Gipsy Moth "Jason" at Wallisdown airfield near Bournemouth. The policeman guarding the aircraft is PC140 William John Pullman of the Dorset Police. The likely date is August 27th 1930. After Amy had returned from Australia, she had to undertake an exhausting tour around Britain in return for the sponsorship she had received from the Daily Mail newspaper. Amy flew to Purchase & Vine's farm at Wallisdown and was then escorted to Meyrick Park, where in front of a crowd of some 25,000 she opened Bournemouth's hospital fete. A reception at the cricket pavilion was then followed by two nights at the Royal Bath Hotel. Our thanks to Mr. Rogers, grandson of PC Pullman for supplying a copy of this photograph.
