Description:

Two Huntcliff ware rim sherds from watching brief at Bankburn Farm, Sand Lane, Wilberfoss, in 1996, (grid ref: SE7565 5030). Course pinky-buff fabric with heavy gritting and blackened by burning. Date to 340/360 - early 5th century AD. A number of sites have been identified in this area by cropmarks and the Roman road to York runs east of the site.
