East Riding Museums

A large country house built of stone and surrounded by attractive landscaped grounds. A drawing of c. 1720 shows a modest five-bay house in a late-Elizabethan style. This was remodelled in the mid 18th century and enlarged in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Major work took placed in 1871-5 and at this date the interior was extensively remodelled. Stable block of 1828. Alterations were made in 1871-5 to the designs of Anthony Salvin.
