Description:
Jacobean mansion of red brick with stone dressings. Traditional courtyard plan with four ranges around a small internal court. Impressive eight bay, three-storey south front. The projecting end bays have wide semi-circular bows with ten-light mullioned windows to each floor. Two oblong bays project from the central recessed block which has 18th-century sash windows throughout. The entrance is tucked away in the left-hand bay. The splendid interior includes the Great Hall with elaborate carved screen and chimneypiece, and the Long Gallery. Three-storey gatehouse. Close by stands the Norman manor house with vaulted stone undercroft. Both houses are open to the public for part of the year, and guide books are available.
