Description:
Front view of building with three brick arches framing windows on two storeys. There is a triangular pediment with a coat of arms above. TB monogram and date beneath. Set up in 1749 from a bequest by Mrs Ann Routh of Beverley (in 1722), Routh's hospital was designed to provide for poor, elderly widows of the town. Each person admitted to the hospital received a purple woolen gown and a silver badge. Subsistence was provided by 2 shillings per week and the widows received 3 bags of coal each at Christmas. In a card mount.
