Description:
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy brooch, with a square garnet inset in the centre. 'S' shaped, in the form of two birds drinking (head to tail). Bodies are decorated with incised grooving and it is likely there was once precious metal applied to the surface (small traces of silver survive). Two projections on the back hold the pin. (missing). Probably 7th century. A metal detecting find from a Roman/Saxon settlement site near Kilham.
