Description:

Copper alloy girdle hanger (end portion only), spots of green patina. Excavation: Sewerby, Anglian Cemetery, Home Farm, grave 35, 1959/1974. It is believed that married Anglo-Saxon women wore these items at their belts as a kind of symbolic key, i.e. that they were in charge of the household.
