Zoomorphic terminal from a Roman silver spoon, found at North Ferriby by Stuart Midgley, whilst metal detecting, 14/4/2013. Resembles a bird's head in profile, with a ring and dot for the eye and curilinear eyebrow above. With serrations to indicate beak/teeth. Snapped off at neck. It comes from a type of spoon with an oval bowl and a curved handle, known as a cignus. See for example an item in the Hoxne treasure. The item was found on the Humber foreshore.
